Jouko Antero Lehtola (1963-2010) was a Finnish photography artist who graduated as Master of Arts from the University of Art and Design Helsinki, Finland in 1993. He was also known as a photo journalist and a rock photographer. His works have been widely exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions in Finland and abroad. Lehtola’s photographs are found in numerous Finnish and international collections, including Deutsche Bank, Moderna Museet in Sweden and KIASMA Museum of Contemporary Art in Finland.

Among the artist’s best known works are those portraying Finnish youth culture (Young Heroes, Urban Youth, Marked Skin) and his studies of Finnish society (Finnish View, OD Helsinki, End of Innocence).

Lehtola was diagnosed with cancer in 2008 and died in 2010. His will left money to set-up the Jouko Lehtola Foundation, which supports young documentary photographers and maintains and promotes the artist’s own work.
